The companion, and what it is not

It is an AI
Bora, Noir, Gil, Nabi and Lumi are characters. When you chat with one, you are talking to software: the replies are generated, in the moment, by a large language model. Nobody is reading them and nobody is typing back. The chat says so at the top of every conversation, and the companion will tell you the same thing if you ask it directly.
It can be wrong
Generated replies get things wrong, including about Senda itself. Nothing the companion says is a promise from us, a fact about an artist, or advice you should act on. What the app actually does is described in the Terms.
What it will not do
The companion is instructed never to claim to be a human being, never to claim professional training it does not have, never to give medical, legal or financial advice, never to play at romance, and never to repeat rumors or discuss the private lives of real people. It does not sell you anything.
If you tell it you are in trouble
Senda checks every message you send to the companion, before it reaches the model, for language about suicide, self-harm, or being in danger. When it matches, the model is not asked at all. Instead the companion drops the character and returns a fixed message: it says it is an AI and cannot help with this, it asks you to talk to a person you trust or a crisis line right now, it points to emergency services if you are in immediate danger, and it links you to findahelpline.com, which lists free, confidential lines in more than 130 countries.
This runs ahead of everything else, so it still works if the model is unavailable and it cannot be talked around. It is a handoff, not a treatment: Senda is not a crisis service and there is no human on call here.
Who it is for
The companion chat is meant for people 16 and over. The rest of Senda - the Ways, the stamps, the dailies, the passport - is not.
What we do with what you type
Your last few messages in a conversation are sent to our model provider to produce the next reply, and are not used to identify you. Handling of your data is covered in the Privacy policy.
